TVD - late to the party edition

Late to the party again as usual, but better late than never! Catching up fast with all seasons of the vampire diaries. Funny how obsessed I am now considering I was reading the synopsis and going how can this seriously be good? Plus Damon Salvatore is so charming?!
Anyway point of this post, in the show, youths only have 2 public places to hang out at in the entire town?! School and Mystic Grill? Seriously?! Where does Elena buy her fantastic looking jackets and where do they shop for dance outfits and stuff?! They need more public places in the show! Shopping malls maybe? An alternative restaurant?! Sheesh, would like more details about town life!
Why can't something exciting like that happen to me irl! Better go check out the books and dig out those deep dark family secrets! Might have some ancient Chinese vamp heritage somewhere!
